Some days I will have a gig in the morning and a gig at night, somedays I have no gigs for 12 days in a row! Consistency is not a perk of this job. I am just riding waves.
My first gig on this day was a morning conference at a local hotel. My team had been hired for stills and video of the morning. We rented a camera for steady cam coverage of the on stage programming, and when my teammate Brandon went to set up the video, the camera would not stay on. We had previously rented this exact same camera, so we felt confident in how to operate it, but the things just would not stay on.
We pivoted and used one of my two Sony’s as the steady cam camera, and I would shoot stills with only one camera. Problem solved, and lessons learned. The Sony did better at video anyways, so moving forward we will just use a Sony and forego the rental. One less drive to Brentwood sounds good to me! I was proud of how we handled the situation. We excepted the reality of the situation and came up with a solution that would allow us to still deliver a great product to the client. Pivoting in this industry is a huge part of these big event undertaking. Too many things can and will go wrong, the goal is to stay chill and still deliver what you are hired to do.
We wrapped that gig, and gig #2 would be just me shooting stills at a private event at a bar in East Nashville. I headed to Crema Coffee to get some work done between gigs. As the owner of this business, all the admin work is on me. The calls, scheduling, finance, editing, web building, BLOGGING, I do currently handle all of that. I do love it, some days it does feel like that week of finals in college that just felt heavy and stressful, but no one has offered me a midnight breakfast in the cafe while I am in the midst of one of those weeks.
Gig number two was with one of my favorite organizations, I just love being around those people. It went so well. I had a WNBA player sign my lens, that is a story for another blog. It was a great evening. I did also do something else between gigs that I am pretty proud of: I made a makeup refresher kit.
I purchased an eyelash curler, some lip gloss, and cream blush to keep in my camera bag for these long days so I don’t look a complete mess when being away from my house for 15+ hours. This is the kind of content you are here for, I am sure.
